What we collect
The Cardwell & District Historical Society (CDHS) is dedicated to collecting, preserving, exhibiting and interpreting Cardwell & district history. The CDHS will collect research material relating to Cardwell from European arrival to the present day, where appropriate (and able to store) this will include physical objects.
The CDHS recognises that it is a custodian of the material entrusted to it for preservation for future generations. It is therefore committed to ensuring that the collection is properly catalogued and stored in such a way as to be accessible to the members and the public, under supervision, and available for loan to other institutions when deemed appropriate.

How to donate an item
We accept donations that adhere to our collection aims, which will be assessed for suitability for the collection. Generally, we are interested in collecting research material (books, documents, images, periodicals, newspapers etc.) that are concerned with Cardwell’s history. Our capacity to display and store objects is limited however any donation offer is individually assessed for relevance to the collection and its significance.

Kirrama Range, Rail, Timber Industry, Marine/Sea, working life, Military, Local History, Family Life, Education, Indigenous History, Natural environment and geography.
Items Collected
Documents (eg land titles, wills, records of legal), Primary sources (eg diaries, minutes, correspondence, speeches), Books, Maps, Photographs, Ephemera (eg menus, timetables,articles of apprenticeship), Local history, newsletters/newspapers, journals, video, movies, DVD’s and CD’s, objects/artefacts as assessed on their significance to the collection and ability to display & store appropriate to the item.
